7 Quick Takes Friday

This week: The Diocese of Phoenix released a “short film” on the masculinity crisis in today’s society. Chris Stefaneck tells us why we are “a bigger deal” than we think. It is Lent now, but “Sunday’s Comin’.” Another amazing cloud formation. Peter Kreeft argues for the existence of God from the reality of morality, good and evil. A robot shows us how to golf. Postmodern Jukebox re-imagines “My Heart Will Go On” as a ’50’s hit.

From Most Rev. Thomas Olmsted’s Diocese of Phoenix, “A Call to Battle” – A Short Film on ‘Society’s Crisis in Masculinity’:

Chris Stefanick explains in his new video, You’re a bigger deal than you think!

— 3 —

It’s Lent, but Sunday’s Comin’:

— 4 —

Another amazing cloud formation, this time from the Portuguese island of Madeira. Maybe God is telling us something. The locals called it “The Hand of God”:

Hand Of God Portugal

— 5 —

The always excellent Prof. Peter Kreeft argues for the existence of God from the premise that moral good and moral evil really exist.

— 6 —

Attention golfers: give up.

The incomparable Postmodern Jukebox brings you the 1997 Titanic hit “My Heart Will Go On,” re-arranged and performed as it would have been in the 1950’s.:

This week: The latest issue of New Evangelists Monthly awaits your perusal. Another outrageous Planned Parenthood video. Pro-aborts are furious that a Super Bowl commercial “humanized” a (human) fetus. Christian genocide is reaching record numbers. Meanwhile, we are focusing our military on the environment. Prager University takes a look at “climate change” claims and abatement efforts. If you have every felt overwhelmed by lingo – you have to see this video.

Another week, another Planned Parenthood video, doing what they do (killing the innocent, profiting handsomely from it, then shamelessly lying about it). In this week’s undercover video, they discuss the accounting tricks used to hide their lucrative baby parts business.

— 3 —

Doritos had an odd, but harmless Super Bowl commercial featuring a pregnant woman (and of course, their product). The baby in utero was already a fan of Doritos. Abortion promoters went “ballistic” because Doritos had the audacity of humanizing the (human) fetus. Fetus, BTW, is just a stage of human development. Matthew Archbold has a summary at the Register.

— 4 —

In case you have missed it (and the mainstream media works hard to make that is the case), “climate change” is not our biggest problem. Radical Islam, a big portion of the religion of peace, is. This is real. It is true. It is happening right now.

Christian Slaughter

— 5 —

Meanwhile, our focus remains firm on “climate change”. We can not be distracted by murdered Christians.

Climate Change Not Slaughter

— 6 —

So, ignoring for the moment the horrific Christian genocide that is underway, how big of a problem is “climate change” anyway and how effective are our abatement efforts?

— 7 —

On a lighter note, Msgr. Charles Pope included this video in a recent post. It illustrates insider lingo run amok. The video starts out a little slow, but quickly picks-up steam. By the end, you will be assuming he is just making all this up.

7 Quick Takes Friday

This week: Turning last Friday’s March for Life lemons into lemonade. The main stream media lost control of the narrative for once. 28 week old preemies hold hands. RISEN looks like it may be a wonderful movie this Lent. Jeff Harris illustrates the difference between the National Catholic Register and the schismatic tabloid with a similar name. A beautiful, special sunrise in Michigan. Your dreams of setting the Rubik’s cube speed record have just been obliterated.

— 1 —

Last Friday’s March for Life was a success, despite the weather. Dozens of buses heading west were snowed-in on the Pennsylvania Turnpike. Stranded in place for many hours, what to do? Celebrate Mass on a snow altar!

— 2 —

USUALLY, despite almost a million marchers (half that this year), the liberal main stream media maintains a tight lid on the event. The media blackout is effective in keeping the march invisible to many. This time, with the snow altar Mass, they lost control of the narrative and news actually reached the public. The hand of God!

— 3 —

Kristiana and Kristian Rushford were born January 3rd at 28 weeks. Here they are a week later, holding hands while staying warm on dad’s chest:

— 4 —

RISEN is a new movie scheduled to be released this Lent (on February 19th). It is an interesting take on Easter, focused on (mostly fictional) events after the resurrection. Early reviews are quite positive.

— 5 —

Jeff Harris at Sword of Peter recently captured the difference between two publications. First, the highly schismatic National catholic Reporter (Fr. Zulhsdorf alternates between calling them the “National Schismatic Reporter” and calling them simply “Fishwrap”). Second, the faithful, orthodox National Catholic Register. Never get them confused.

Mechaele Loraff had to pull over on her way to work recently. This reason…   this amazing Michigan sunrise:

If you hope to set a record one day in solving Rubik’s cube, give up now.

This week: The latest issue of New Evangelists Monthly awaits your perusal. The annual March for Life is almost here. A child at the brink of death is saved by the intercession of her guardian angel and the Communion of Saints. A woman remembers her child on her wedding day. A desperate father saves his son from premature organ harvesting. Burglars star in a restaurant’s new TV ad. Secular Christmas classics re-imagined in light of contemporary headlines.

The flu can be deadly for the young and old. It is not just a bad cold. 4 year old Gemma Botelho almost died. Thanks to her guardian angel (nudging her parents to choose the emergency room) and through the intercession of the Communion of Saints, she survived. It is a miracle, but not an unexplainable one!

— 4 —

Some weddings are bitter-sweat, such as that of Amanda Freebird. Two years ago her 6 year old daughter Azalee died from cancer. Amanda wanted, in some way, to include Azalee and photographer Ashley Frantz did just that in a touching image. The story is at People.

George Pickering III is a happy, healthy young man working with his dad in a small electrical engineering business and in building a new house.

Last year this time, a Texas hospital decided the time was right to harvest his organs. George was terminal with no hope for recovery. His dad disagreed, but there was nothing he could legally do to stop them. Legally, he could do nothing. The story is here.

Frijoles & Frescas was burglarized a week before Christmas. They decided to fight back, turning their surveillance video into this commercial:

Finally, as my wrap-up to the Christmas season, I present these secular stories…   updated.

7 Quick Takes Friday

This week: Ken Yasinski reflects on the nature of Christmas Peace. The Vatican Christmas tree is in St. Peter’s Square for the 33rd year. Nativity scenes from around the world are displayed in Rome. A school district edits the heart out of A Charlie Brown Christmas. A New South Wales Catholic Education office performs a rendition of the Little Drummer Boy. The Piano Guys are accompanied by a cast of 1,000 in their performace of Angels We Have Heard On High. LifeSiteNews reminds us what true freedom is this Christmas.

— 1 —

Christmas peace, not sales, not parties, not Santa, certainly not carbon credits. Christ! That is where our focus should be, in this Advent short-stretch before Him.

— 2 —

The Vatican Christmas tree again appears in St. Peter’s Square. This tradition dates back only to 1982 during the reign of Pope St. John Paul II. Always included with the tree is a life-sized Nativity scene.

— 3 —

Nativity scenes from around the world are on display in Rome. This annual tradition is celebrating its 40th anniversary, featuring 167 Nativity scenes from 33 countries.

— 4 —

A Kentucky school district is performing A Charlie Brown Christmas (yea) with the apparently objectionable “religious part” ripped-out on the advice of their attorneys (boo). Here is what they will miss (i.e. the whole point):

— 5 —

The Catholic Education Office of the Diocese of Parramatta (Australia) offers this just released a cappella version of the Little Drummer Boy:

— 6 —

The Piano Guys, along with over 1,000 friends, perform a mix of Angels We Have Heard On High:

— 7 —

True freedom. Government can persecute us for not worshiping them, but can never take our true freedom away as it does not come from them. Never did, never will.
