7 Quick Takes Friday

This week: A lingerie company produces videos featuring beautiful women, unlike what you might assume. A liquor company produces a video with a touching story. (Some ads are getting better!) Father Barron explores what it means to be called by God. Another wreckovated church works to restore beauty dedicated to the Glory of God. The Girl Scouts, doing what they do these days.

— 1 —

A lingerie company features beautiful women in its video promotion. Nothing new there, we expect to see pretty young models, photo-shopped to impossible physique and scantily clothed for all to see. That is not what Wacol (a Thai company) had in mind. They show REAL beauty in their Beauty Inside campaign. Definitely counter-cultural, just like the Church.

Each video tells a touching story showing strength of character, humility and charity. There is a subtext that runs through these videos: real men notice real beauty. Watch for it. There are 3 in total, 6 to 7 minutes each. Inspiring.

— 2 —

2 of 3 (yea, I didn’t have enough 7QTF notes for this week so am padding this one out).

— 3 —

3 of 3 (still padding, but good enough to warrant their own 7QTF item numbers).

— 4 —

Speaking of advertisements, Bell’s (a hard liquor purveyor from South Africa) has this touching ad. It’s viral at over 1.2M views.

— 5 —

Father Barron’s latest video examines God’s calling. BTW, by virtue of our own baptisms and confirmations we too are called as priests, prophets and kings. How have you been answering that call?

— 6 —

Another post Vatican II wreckovated church is being restored. The once very beautiful Holy Name of Jesus in Brooklyn has raised $2.35M to begin undoing the “modernization” damage:

Gregory Dipippo covers this story at the New Liturgical Movement.

Girl Scouts Tears

People are beginning to understand that the Girl Scouts USA organization (the one who gets 85% of cookie sale proceeds, not the local troops) of 2014 is not the one of old. You will find that spirit in the American Heritage Girls and others who have sprung-up as moral replacements for today’s GSUSA.

Naturally, GSUSA wants to protect their revenue stream. To that end, they are threatening LifeNews, a news organization, linking the girl scout logo to their articles (not an infringement). The story with background info is at: Girl Scouts USA Threatens LifeNews After Reporting Its Link to Planned Parenthood.

This week: The latest issue of New Evangelists Monthly is ready and calling you. The United Nations has demanded changes to Catholic doctrine in support of abortion and homosexuality. Christopher Stefanick’s new video: Ocean of Mercy. Devout Catholic (so she claims) Nancy Pelosi is recognized for her life’s work. The American Life League reminds us of GSUSA’s anti-life orientation. Bill Whittle gives his own “state of the union”. A segway-style skate board.

The United Nations has been apparently joined the war against religious freedom. They are demanding nothing less than changes to core Catholic doctrine. This, of course, is in promotion of abortion and homosexuality. If you are Catholic or simply pro-life or pro-family, please sign the Declaration in Support of the Holy See at the United Nations:

More about this is on the C-FAM (Catholic Family & Human Rights Institute) website in the piece: Vatican Blasts UN Committee That Asks Church To Change Teaching on Abortion and Homosexuality.

Christopher Stefanick has another wonderful video, Ocean of Mercy:

Obama Pelosi Kiss

Nancy Pelosi (self-described “devout Catholic”) is being awarded Planned Parenthood’s highest recognition for decades of rabid promotion of abortion “leadership, excellence, and outstanding contributions”. This is well deserved recognition of her tireless efforts (to maximize innocent human carnage). Townhall has the story: Pelosi to Receive Planned Parenthood’s Highest Award.

Girl Scouts Tears

The American Life League reminds us all of the steady drift of Girl Scouts away from the ideals we fondly remember and toward something far less honorable. I wrote about them a while back (Loss of innocence) and things have only worsened since then. There are excellent, far superior alternatives for your children. Read Paul Rondeau’s Pro-life leaders launch boycott of Girl Scouts Cookies over ‘radicalized’ agenda at LifeSiteNews.

Cookie suggestion: don’t buy any. Instead, make a contribution to your local Girl Scout council in support of your relatives, neighbors and friends who ask. The local council will then get 100% of your money vs. only pennies. This cuts the radical, national organization out of the loop.

Not all prophesy is religious. Some is political. Actually, maybe this following video is not so much prophesy as a statement of fact. We are in a slow moving train wreck, suspect something is up, and don’t know how to stop it. Choosing our leadership is not a try this then try that affair. The damage is far more permanent than many understand.

I am way too old for this, but it looks really fun:

7 Quick Takes Friday

This week: I am catching up on my backlog of miscellaneous items… Coke’s pro-family viral video. P&G’s pro-mom ad for the Olympics. Two young, talented boys perform a Christian song. The restoration of Milwaukee’s St. Stanislaus. Fr. Barron has an excellent video on God and morality. Some wise observations from Penn Jillette. Losing the culture war to oikophobes — Bill Whittle explains.

— 1 —

This is a viral video (here, in case you missed it) from Coca Cola. It’s cute but most importantly, very pro-family:

— 2 —

Another ad, this one from P&G has a nice pro-mom angle for the Olympics:

— 3 —

Check-out these talented kids’ performance of Rooftops (a Christian song by Jesus Culture):

St. Stanislaus is, or at least was, a beautiful church in Milwaukee. It was the victim of post-Vatican II “modernization” and quickly went from thriving to moribund. Efforts are underway to undo the damage and as that work continues, life in the church is recovering. This is an inspiring video of their turnaround:

— 5 —

Fr. Barron has a new video on God and Morality. I watch a lot of his excellent videos, but was going to pass on this one. That is, until I Marcel (LeJeune, here) called it “one of Fr. Barron’s best videos”. It is indeed, very good:

In his following video, father also provided some additional commentary .

— 6 —

Penn Jillette said this a few years ago in an interview, but as of late it is again making the rounds on the Internet. He’s an atheist, but the quote is spot on.

Penn Jillette On Giving And Compassion

We are losing the culture war waged by oikophobes against all that is good, moral and righteous. Bill Whittle explains in this video:

7 Quick Takes Friday

This week: Britt Hume gives an excellent summation on Roe’s big day. The President gives 1 paragraph on the topic (every word he wrote is a lie, including ‘and’ and ‘the’). Fr. Barron looks at ever-growing anti-Catholicism. A defense of marriage before the Indiana House. Russ Rentler updates the Stones Under My Thumb. Youth 2000. A wonderful animated short you won’t want to miss.

— 1 —

Britt Hume’s summation hits the right chord on this anniversary of Roe:

— 2 —

Fr. Z was reminded of the Hellman / McCarthy debate by President Obama’s recent 1 paragraph statement on the Roe anniversary (“Every word [he] writes is a lie, including ‘and’ and ‘the’.”).

Read Matthew Schmitz’ excellent piece over at First Things: Eight Lies in President Obama’s Roe Statement.

— 3 —

Anti-Catholic prejudice is not only alive and well, but more blatant than ever. Including from the nominal (at most) Catholics in the far-left political wing (e.g. Andrew Cuomo). Fr. Barron has some excellent comments:

— 4 —

Indiana, like so many other states, is considering redefining marriage to be something it simply isn’t. Ryan Anderson gave wonderful testimony to their House Judiciary Committee recently on why that is such a bad idea:

Spotted by Fr. Hollowell

— 5 —

Russ Rentler has observed how well the Rolling Stones offensive classic Under My Thumb fits the Obama administration’s jackboot oppression of the Little Sisters of the Poor. He updated the composition and performs it here:

— 6 —

The UK’s Youth 2000 recent (12/29 to 1/1) Home Coming event has closed. (I also wrote about them last July.) Here are their wrap-up highlights videos:

— 7 —

This animated short is entitled Changing Batteries. You will like it.

Msgr. Charles Pope has written about it in From Battery Life To Real Life. An Allegory about Dying and Rising in a touching Cartoon. Good stuff.

7 Quick Takes Friday

This week: This week many selfless people. A restaurant owner selling his restaurant for an employee’s medical care. A doctor spends his nights on the streets with the homeless. A chef feeds 750 children every evening. Plus the usual miscellany. Pre-marital sex is awesome! Benedictines of Mary, Queen of Apostles are releasing Lent at Ephesus. Fr. Gerry Murray discusses the Little Sisters of the Poor. A Wheel of Fortune category: famous lies.

— 1 —

Restaurant owner Michael De Beyer is selling his restaurant to raise money for one of his employees recently diagnosed with a tumor. 19 year old Brittany Mathis’ father died from a brain tumor when she was 5 and now she too has has a brain tumor.

— 2 —

Few of the homeless have any access to healthcare. Dr. Jim Withers spends his evenings doing something about it:

Dr. Withers’ efforts have grown into Operation Safety Net, part of the Pittsburgh Mercy Health System and Catholic Health East, sponsored by the Sisters of Mercy. Spotted by Marcel.

— 3 —

So called “motel kids” are the almost homeless and struggle for decent food. Chef Bruno Serato is doing something about it:

CNA has a recent update on this story. Chef Serato’s efforts have grown into Caterina’s Club (named after his mother) which feeds 750 children every day.

— 4 —

Pre-marital sex is awesome!!! Right? The youth group at Annunciation Catholic Church in Brazil, IN made this video:

— 5 —

Now that Advent is over, we are in a brief period of Ordinary Time before the next liturgical season: Lent. The Benedictines of Mary, Queen of Apostles will be releasing Lent at Ephesus which is available now for pre-order.

Pat: “We continue now with tonight’s category ‘Famous Lies’.”
Me: “Pat, I would like to buy an ‘O’.”
